Os Sabores do Mel Honey Fair
The tenth edition of the Santa Clara-a-Nova honey fair ("the flavours of honey") fills the village for a weekend: exhibitors, food, a honey cake contest, folk dance groups, choirs and dances into the small hours. On Sunday the fair joins the village's annual street fair.

The fair
Honey is one of the flavours of the land in Santa Clara-a-Nova: the cork and holm oak woodland, the lavender and rockrose of the Serra do Caldeirão give it character, and the fair devoted to it is now in its tenth edition. For two days the village hosts exhibitors, food and entertainment from morning to night.
The programme brings together the best of the region: a honey cake contest, a cooking show for children, folk dance groups from the Algarve, Alentejo choirs, regional artists and two dances that run into the early hours.
On Sunday 4 October the fair joins the Santa Clara-a-Nova annual street fair, which opens at 8 am, with street entertainment through the day.

Santa Clara-a-Nova is about 15 km from Almodôvar, off the A2 motorway. Lisbon is about 200 km away (2h30); Faro about 100 km (1h15). The village is small and the fairground is easy to find.
